Dillon's Mistress

There's this guy. His name is Todd. I like to refer to him as "Dillon's Mistress". (Actually when I first started dating Dillon his family referred to Todd as "Dillon's Girlfriend" but then we got married, forcing them to revise the title a bit).

Todd is a Green Bay fan. Dillon, a San Fran enthusiast. Last Saturday their friendship was put to the test. I only had got to watch half of the game because of other plans. It was entertaining to say the least. One yelling at the screen while the other clapped in glee. I sat on the couch and giggled at it all.

When all was said and done, the Niners prevailed. The result? San Francisco moves on in the play-offs and Dillon and I get free dinner courtesy of Todd. To add insult to injury Todd also has to wear a 49ers jersey when he takes us to dinner.

Post-game photo. Look- still friends.

**That poncho is something special isn't it? Dillon's dad brought that back from Cancun just for him. Hideous, no?**

All Dogs Go to Heaven, Eventually

Remember that little Chihuahua I mentioned in my last post? Last week she decided to go a knockin' on death's door (no exaggeration). She became all sorts of nasty-sick. The kind of sick that involves multiple bathroom trips and blood coming out of orifices (TMI? My bad).

We rushed her out to the local vet where we were told to give her Pepto bismol and be on our merry way. We dutifully wrestled our little 2 1/2 pound dog to squirt that lovely pink liquid down her throat but later that night she became a limp Chihuahua noodle. She couldn't stand and could barely breathe. She was practially comatose. She looked like this, tongue hanging out and all.

It might have been funny if it wasn't so tragically, pathetically heartbreaking. I held my poor little dog and cried through the night like the ridiculous pet owner that I am.

The following morning she was shockingly still alive. We rushed her back to the vet. He gave her some doggy steroids and hooked her up to an IV right quick to pump some fluids into her system. ***Now I know as a told some people this story they were on the edge of their seats ready to mock me during this part. "Seriously, you paid for an IV for your DOG?!" "Oh you're one of THOSE people." But let me tell you, that IV was only fifty bucks and I love that stupid dog. And I've come to the realization that if I was loaded, I might be one of THOSE people. Mock away. It's all good.

We took her home, IV bag and all.

After a few days, she was right as rain. She's back to barking at every little thing and whining in the middle of the night. Basically back to making Dillon question if marrying me was worth it. Jokes...kind of.

Hello Blog-o-sphere!

Are you ready for a peek into the Thatcher life? Well ready or not this blog is making it's way onto (into?) the blogosphere. I make no guarantees regarding this little blog's entertainment value or my own writing skills. For a long time I've wanted to keep a journal and do in fact own one that receives little tidbits of my life story here and there but oh so sparingly. I'm hoping this blog will be an easier journaling avenue.

The blog development is still in the primitive stages. I basically have no idea how to do anything on here yet, but prepare to be dazzled :) I will figure it out.

To give this post a little more meat I thought I would review 2012 Thatcher style (sorry, no pictures for this one).

  1. We moved out of our first apartment and into my grandpa's house while he and his wife are on a mission. There are so many perks to this arrangement but one of the best is that we have our very own backyard, hooray! That and a carport. I love this carport the way a fat kid loves cake because it prevents me from having to scrape my car windows in the morning. That window-scraping is the worst. It makes my teeth ache, ya know?
  2. We bought a "man-dog" for Dillon. We already had my little long-haired Chihuahua named Peaches. She is ridiculously tiny and what I like to refer to as ugly-cute. Anyway, Dillon felt that we needed to procure  a dog that he could take on a walk without hiding his face in shame so we got Alice. She is a German Wirehaired Pointer and quite the handful. To complete our pet-ownership status we also transported Dillon's turtle Little Buddy to our new home.
  3. Dillon graduated from SUU with a bachelor's in Engineering Technology with an Architecture emphasis.
  4. I completed my first year of teaching and about cried in relief and exhaustion.
  5. Dillon and I celebrated our second anniversary in June.
  6. Dillon's friend Todd and his little brother John lived with us for a couple of months. No more walking around the house naked- I kid, I kid.
  7. Dillon finished his work with an SUU professor on a new, up and coming architecture/engineering business known as MAS (Modern Arch Structures).
  8. And last but not least, we loved each other as much as ever. We laughed together, learned together, and grew together. Boy do I love that guy!
Altogether, it was a pretty great year. Looking forward to the happenings of The Thatcher Life in 2013!
