Sawyer's new way of greeting is to say, "Hey, what's up?" and he'll greet me pretty much any time he leaves the room and then comes back. He's successfully day time potty trained but we're still figuring out night time. His body has bounced back from whatever that freak regression was and now naps are fine and he makes it through the night except for those few minutes when he's waking up in the morning.
He and Dawson had their dental check-ups and Sawyer was pretty jazzed to go back. He decided that laying down on the chair this time would be alright which made it so they could actually clean his teeth instead of just brushing them. We decided to try x-rays to see if he'd be cool with getting them done. He thought the chair was great and he kept putting his face up to the machine and saying "cheeese" but he couldn't handle the mouth inserts. The hygienist tried a couple of times but he promptly gagged them right out of his mouth and then wanted to get down.
We threw his shark party once the rest of the holidays were over and everyone had recuperated from the stomach flu. He was all hyped up and bounded around and around the house in excitement. He had fun playing with cousins and opening presents.
He went to primary for the first time...and sat by me the majority of the time. He didn't throw up (hooray!) but there were a lot of tears. Then he got too comfortable and kept running up to talk in the microphone or draw on the chalkboard. And when I tried to have him sit in his seat by his class, he had a meltdown. But he enjoyed the class part where it was just him and the other sunbeams. And when it was time to go again this last week, he didn't panic (although I still had to go with him) so we're making progress.
Dawson
I feel like Dawson is perpetually teething. He is definitely perpetually ornery and I don't really know why and whenever that happens I label it "teething". It DOES look like he's got some bottom molars bubbling through so hopefully they get the job done faster rather than slower.
He wasn't too sure of the dentist at first. He kept clamping his lips together when the hygienist would get close to his mouth with the scrubber. She managed to get it far enough in his mouth that he could taste the flavor of the cleaning stuff, and then he opened his mouth just fine so that he could taste more.
He thinks he should be able to roam the house at will. It's like he gets bored with being in the same room as the rest of us and decides to search for mischief in other rooms instead. He loves it when we "chase" after him to try to catch him as he leaves the room. He giggles so hard and then just walks faster and faster away from us.
He's added some new words to his vocabulary beyond "hi" and "tree". He now says: more, drink, puppy, cheese, grandpa, grandma, and bum. Some of them are discernible to all, some not as much. A few of them I didn't even know he could say and he just surprised me. Like when I pulled the cheese out of the fridge as I was making dinner and suddenly he was chirping, "chee! chee!" as he opened and closed his hands asking for some. Or when I was changing his diaper and wiping away the mess and he looked at me and said, "Bum." He's becoming quite the little parrot and I know will pick up new words all the time. I just wanted to make sure I had down some of the firsts to look back on.
Dillon
Dillon was excited to play church basketball this year. He had to take a break last year since he was recovering from shoulder surgery. He went to his first game this last Saturday. It was too early for me to get the boys up and ready so that we could go watch. And now that Sawyer's a bit of a bolter, I don't know if I dare; which is too bad because church ballgames can be pretty darn entertaining. If you ever want to see some worked up Mormons with tempers, go watch some church ball.
Dillon took me to see Thor for a date night. He set up babysitting with my parents and I guess my dad thought it was weird that I "made" him call my mom instead of me just doing it. But my mom was like, "I think it's his month for dates sooo.." She gets it. Or at least she gets that that's how I am. Coordinating babysitting falls under the date night responsibilities umbrella.
DaNae
I got to go see The Greatest Showman with my mom. I hadn't even heard of it because I never see previews for movies anymore but everyone and their dog was posting about it on social media and I'd heard from a few friends that it was good. Since it's a musical, I decided to spare Dillon and invite my mom. We both really liked it and I'm thinking that Dillon would have actually liked it too, but would be too cool to admit it in public. I've been listening to the soundtrack on YouTube the entire weekend and just really want it to be out on DVD so I can watch it again.
The Primary Presidency promptly asked me to be a Sunbeams teacher after Sawyer's first week as a Sunbeam at church. I'm sure it's for the best but I can't help but have some mixed feelings about it. The calling itself will be so fun because the group of three-year-olds in Sawyer's class are hilarious and Sawyer definitely still needs me to come with him right now (he thought I was leaving this last week and started hardcore bawling in the middle of class) but I was really hoping to wean him from his need to be with me. But for right now, it will be fun to be with him and the other kids. Plus I team teach with a cute lady who will be fun to work with and who has been really kind when it's come to Sawyer's anxiety.
We finally blew up his bouncy cow from Papa Steve and Kim.
And then big brother tried to take over.
Me and the boys were watching a movie together and Dawson kept reaching back so that I could kiss his hand. He wouldn't budge from his spot, just gently moved his hand to my face every other minute.
At the dentist.
Same bowl for a hat, different baby. I need to find Sawyer's picture to put them side by side.
Sawyer's party.
His new Sharkbite! game that he loves to play with, just not the ACTUAL game.
His and his breakfast: chocolate milk and toast.
Out grocery shopping.
We took the boys to the park for some outside air while it was at least kind of warm. I would put Dawson on the playground stairs and let him walk up, then he would turn the corner and walk all the way up to where Dillon was waiting at the top and Dillon would slide him down the slide for me to catch. After doing this a few times, Dawson walked/crawled all the way up to Dillon but then started backing up and backing up until he got to the bottom slide and then figured out that he could back himself up enough to slide down without our help. Little stink just wants to do everything himself. It was the cutest.
