Sawyer Six Months

Weight: 17 lbs 5 oz (41st percentile)

Height: 27 1/2 in (80th percentile)

Head Circumference: 17 1/4 in (47th percentile)

During his six month Sawyer:

• Went to summer science with mom where he got to go on field trips, take naps, witness the chaos that is 13-year-olds doing labs, and be loved on by the students.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
• Started sleeping in his crib, because he outgrew his bassinet. Otherwise, in all honesty, he'd probably still be in our room. He was sleeping through the night but then the transition brought on some struggles; mostly him rolling onto his face and then not being able to make it back.

I panicked watching him sleep like this but he seems to prefer it.

And it results in some pretty awesome morning face

Or his little limbs getting stuck between the slats- quickly remedied by breathable mesh bumpers.

We've made it back to him sleeping through the night almost every night though. He never wakes up to eat in the middle of the night anymore (and hasn't for a while) but every now and then he'll need his binky popped back in or to be flipped off of his face.

• Started rolling consistently from front to back..but I'm not sure it's intentional. He can roll to his stomach with ease and then fights to get to his back. Half the time he gets too frustrated and just rubs his face in the carpet and yells. (This becomes a problem at night as already mentioned).

• Picked up this cute quirk of rubbing/grabbing my arm while I change his diaper or get him out of his car seat.

• Started doing this lip trick after he's done eating.
  
  
  
  
• Went swimming for the first time. He seems to like it but definitely isn't all giggles about it.

We invested in this shaded pool float for him. Worth every penny.

• Met some more baby friends including Blair at the pool and Beckham at a lunch date.

• Started flapping all of his limbs when he gets excited- snow angel style. This is cause for a lot of blurry pictures.

• Discovered his flexibility allows for him to chew on his toes.

• Went camping for the first time and rocked it. Though it was camping with a cabin and mattress but still.

• Started appreciating his Bumbo more and lasting longer than two seconds in it.

• Played some catch with his dad. Heartmelting.
  
  
  
  This sweet boy is entirely lovable. Watching him grow and become more aware is so fun. The other day I was talking to him about my hope in teaching him to be kind to people and how I want him to grow up to be kind. He just sat and stared in my eyes while I talked and I swear he was taking it all in. I love him and our little family. Life is good.

Sawyer Five Months

During his fifth month Sawyer:

• Went on a field trip to the wildlife museum in St. George

• Snuggled up for some naps with his dad

• Had a couple sleepovers with mom when dad was out of town

• Discovered his hands and feet..which I couldn't ever get a picture of. He'll grab both feet while laying on his back and bring them as close to his body as possible..or he'll put his hands straight out in front of his body so he can see them better and just stare and stare.

• Would really like to move around and control his body. You can just see the frustration in his eyes at not being able to do what he would like.

• Tried out this bouncer that my co-worker gave us and is definitely a fan (for short periods of time). He seems to dig the new view.

• Started sleeping through the night 95% of the time.

And this is how we feel about it!

• Made his first trip to Delta and the farm.

• Started to chew on EVERYTHING. All parts of his Wubbanub are now fair game, not just the pacifier.

• Started rolling over like a pro, but only back to front..so once he gets to his front he squawks to be flipped back.

• And this..is not new. I've taken a million pictures of this little sleep habit. I just get a kick out of it every time.

This little boy's personality is so awesome. He has a grin ready for anyone who wants it. He is so calm and chill. Other people often comment on how content he is. He has his moments, but they are typically few and far between. And for your enjoyment, I'll leave you with a few of my attempts to capture his 5 month photo..

In the 2 seconds it took me to grab my phone after I placed him...he somehow managed to face plant. 

Sawyer Four Months

Weight: 14 lbs 5 oz (38th percentile)

Height: 26 1/2 in (93rd percentile)

Head Circumference: 16 1/2 in (41st percentile)

During his fourth month Sawyer:

• Had a major growth spurt as far as height...he jumped from the 26th percentile to the 93rd. And so, his 3-6 month clothes will not be worn anywhere near into his 6th month.

6 mo jammies

• Started sucking on his fingers 24/7

• Started pushing up on his feet and arching his back when he's playing...and when he's mad. He'll do it in this bouncer if we don't strap him into it. He'll push off his feet and arch his little bum up, like a backwards inch worm, until his feet dangle off the edge. Once he's got his feet nice and dangly, he'll chill like he's in the best La-Z-y Boy in the world.

• Got a lot better at holding his head up but is still kind of bobbly. He's made progress from the first of the month. We maybe had to hold his head when he was in the Bumbo for a little while.

• Has turned into a little babbler and talks all the time. He of course stopped doing so in the video but I'm going to include it for myself...for later when he's running around and I want to reminisce his baby-ness. (Really...I'm sure it's not interesting to anyone but me).

• Finally got some outside time not all bundled up.

• Really bloomed as a smiler. He's been smiling for awhile now but, lately, if someone talks to him, he's sold. It doesn't matter who it is, he'll give you a big gummy grin that will melt your heart.

• Began noticing when we leave the room and doesn't like it one bit.

• Got to go on the field trip to Zion with mom, dad, and the students

Side story: Monday morning Dillon and I were getting ready to head to the school for the field trip to Zion that I was in charge of. We loaded up our car with everything we needed and then got in...and the car wouldn't detect our key. We have a keyless start car and if it won't detect the key, it won't do anything. The car kept powering itself down. So Dillon and I decided to hop out for a second and try starting the car from the outside (which we can do with our key). It didn't work...and then we found out that the car had locked with Sawyer inside. So then Sawyer starts screaming (because he was hungry, not because he had a clue that that the car had locked him inside) and we're trying to figure out how to get in. So then I'm crying while I watch Sawyer cry (because these mom emotions guys). Then I'm thinking we're going to have to break our window. I call my mom and tell her what happened, blubbering all the while, and told her I didn't know what to do. She said to call the police because they can get into our car (something I probably should have known but my life experience didn't lend such knowledge). I call dispatch and ask them to come. And then Dillon remembers that there is another way into our car and gets it unlocked. So I call dispatch back and tell them not to come. I'm sure they thought I was crazy. We got Sawyer out and fed him while I calmed my nerves. My mom came by and graciously let us borrow one of their vehicles so we could make it to the school and the field trip. We called the dealership and had our car taken care of while we were gone. And now, everything is fine but that was not an awesome start to what was guaranteed to already be a stressful day (because the people who run Zion are incredibly ornery and crazy and tree-huggerish...but that's another post for another time).

Happy four months to Sawyer. We love you little boy!
